Common questions

Booking, Timing and Response Times

How do I book?

Call (02) 9054 3079 or send a message through our contact page, whichever is easier for you. We'll ask a few quick questions about the job, then find a time that suits you, often same or next day.

What happens after I call?

One of our team talks you through the job over the phone first, no upsell, just plain English. If it needs a look in person, we book a visit and confirm the cost in writing before anything starts.

Do you work weekends?

We do, for genuine electrical emergencies: sparking points, a burning smell, no power at all. Standard bookings run through the week, and weekend slots get booked in when they're available, so call early if a weekend works best.

What counts as an electrical emergency?

Sparking outlets, a burning smell, exposed wiring, or the power cutting out with no explanation all count as emergencies. If your switchboard is smoking or making noise, turn it off at the switchboard and call (02) 9054 3079 straight away.

Common questions

Pricing, Straight Up

Do prices change once you start?

No. The price we quote is the price you pay, and it's agreed before any work starts. If something changes on site, like a board being in worse shape than expected, we stop and talk it through before doing anything extra.

How do I pay?

You can pay by card or bank transfer once the job's done and signed off. We'll give you the final invoice on the spot, matching what was agreed before we started, no surprises added on.

How do quotes work?

Every quote is free, with no call-out fee just to get someone out to look. We assess the job, explain what's involved in plain English, then give you a fixed written price before any work begins.

What does "$50 off your first service" cover?

New customers get $50 off their first job with us, taken straight off the invoice. It applies to any first job, big or small, from a simple repair to a full switchboard upgrade.

Common questions

Local to Beacon Hill

Do you know Beacon Hill's housing stock?

Most of Beacon Hill was built through the 1960s boom on the ridge, brick and fibro homes on their original blocks. Plenty of those original blocks now carry a bigger, newer build in place of the old one, but the wiring underneath is often still from the first fit-out.

What suburbs do you service?

We cover Beacon Hill itself, plus Allambie Heights, Brookvale, Frenchs Forest, Narraweena and Dee Why. That's the regular run for our team, so we already know the streets and the kind of homes we're walking into.

Why do Beacon Hill's older homes need switchboard upgrades?

Homes from the 1960s building boom were wired for a much lighter load than most modern households carry today. That's usually the main reason older boards on these blocks need an upgrade: they were never built for the number of appliances, air conditioning and EV chargers a household runs now.

Do you work on heritage and strata properties?

Beacon Hill is mostly free-standing and semi-detached homes on their own blocks rather than strata buildings, so it's less common work here than in some suburbs. We still take it on when it comes up, heritage-style renovations included, and price it the same way: fixed, in writing, before we start.

Common questions

Licensing and Safety

Can I do my own electrical work in NSW?

No. DIY electrical work is illegal in NSW for anything beyond very minor tasks like changing a light globe. Electrical work has to be carried out, and certified, by a licensed electrician. It's a safety rule, not a formality.

What is a Certificate of Compliance and do I get one?

A Certificate of Compliance is the paperwork confirming the work meets AS/NZS 3000 and has been tested before we sign off. You get one automatically on notifiable jobs. We lodge it with NSW Fair Trading as part of finishing the work, not as an extra step you have to chase.

What brands do you install?

On the tools it's SAL, Beacon Lighting, Clipsal and Hager, not whatever's cheapest that week. Premium brands cost a little more up front but hold up better and are easier to service down the track.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. We hold NSW Electrical Contractor Licence #452529C, belong to Master Electricians Australia, and carry full insurance on every job. Ask to see any of it on the day, we're used to being asked.
